True, brilliantly written story of how one young man solved his crisis by rowing the Atlantic. This is a story about trying to find happiness. There is a strange trick to being happy. You have to think certain things, believe certain things and hold your tongue the right way. This is the story of how Kevin Biggar lost the trick and found it again. There's quite a bit about rowing as well. If you are in a hurry here are the contents of this book in 150 words or less ''I stop being immortal. I have a traumatic pizza ordering experience and realize I am very unhappy. I quit my job, girlfriend, house and go live with my mother. I watch a lot of daytime TV. The 'How's Life' show decides that I row the Atlantic. I team up with the original Naked Rower, we struggle to raise money, start building the boat, start training insanely. I lose the plot. Find a rowing partner, lose a rowing partner, get another rowing partner - Jamie. ''Meet Hot Polish Girl with cold hands. Start the race (badly). Row into storm. Take the lead. Row. Lose the lead. Row. Attempt a Big Push. Nothing happens. More rowing. Hallucinations. Slowly catch up! Another storm. Neck and neck as we sprint to the finish. Capsize and get thrown out of the boat. Get to Barbados! Yay! Get protested against. Boo! Media circus. Win at the protest hearing. Still living with Mum.''

Big on humor, Kevin Biggar's book tells a riveting story of a "mid-life crisis" young man who takes on a preposterous sounding challenge. Kevin's experience exemplifies what happens when one gets caught up in the flow of something. This was a very informative book, yet Kevin kept a sense of humor all the way through. He made the reader feel like they were in the boat with him and his rowing partner Jamie. One great thing is that I learned about Roho, a company that makes cushions and other items generally used for wheelchairs and other medical devices. Kevin, like many rowers, found that his rearend suffered immensely from sitting on those rock-hard sliding seats. (Mine does too.) Anyway, Roho in New Zealand helped Kevin out with some of their cushions designed for his rowing seat. I contacted Roho also and ordered a type of pad from them that I use in my rowing wherry. It's not perfect, but it's the best thing I've found so far. So, thanks Kevin! Great book and good information. My only criticism is that he sometimes uses phrases/words that are not familiar to this country...I guess it's "New Zealand" speak. I will also add that there is NO WAY IN HELL I will ever row across an ocean. I've sailed across them, and that was enough for me.Product details

The Oarsome Adventures Of A Fat Boy Rower How I Went From Couch Potato To Atlantic Rowing Race Winner Kevin Biggar 9781459672024 Books Reviews
A great Kiwi yarn. An easy read, though well told. A fascinating insight into the Atlantic rowing race - and until I got to the end of the book I hadn't realised just how small the boats are!
Wasn't into rowing at all but a fabulous book. A Well written, witty story from start to finish, that draws you in to make you feel like you are part of this amazing experience . I can't wait to read other books by him
I loved this book so much I even read the acknowledgments. Kevin is a natural storyteller and this book was enjoyable from start to finish. I'm not that interested in rowing but the book was so much more than that and I have taken away a few inspirational lessons to apply to my own goal. I'm starting his next book immediately.
unbelievable story of endurance and stamina great reading and even harder to put down, has me reading non- fiction again.
I loved reading about this epic adventure and really appreciated the NZ references and sayings. I would highly recommend this easy read to anyone who enjoys reading of outdoor adventures with a sprinkling of interesting history and facts throughout.
Loved the comedy included in the narrative. The book is easy to read and makes you feel that you are there on the journey with the author. A great tale of perseverance and courage.
I randomly found this book, downloaded a sample, and was sucked in. The writing style is refreshing, funny, entertaining, and engaging. It reads more like a quirky modern novel than an autobiography! The book describes that point in each of our lives where we are faced with ourselves and how it IS possible to decide to make Life something else entirely. I immediately began nagging several of my friends that they've absolutely got to read it. I am really looking forward to reading his second book, which is on its way as we speak! As good of a read as it is, I'm honestly surprised it's flying under the radar here on .
